Registering allows Disability Pride Parade NYC to share the most up-to-date parade information.

Giving Back to the Parade

The Disability Pride Parade NYC has a mutual aid requirement. The parade should be inclusive of all -- including people and organizations with limited funds--while also helping DPNYC.

Last year, we asked you for a donation. But this year, we’re asking for something different and returning to the disability rights movement’s roots: advocacy. 

New York City Belongs: Together for All is a new initiative of the Project Access for All communities that asks for $140,455 in City Council Speaker’s Initiative funding for free annual events for the disability community. This includes the Disability Pride NYC Parade, the Disability Unite Festival, and Disability Pride Month borough events. That means the funds go directly to the community.

We can’t get this funding without your help, so this year’s Parade participation requirement is to do at least one of the following:

• Email or call your City Council Member requesting that they encourage Speaker Julie Menin to support the initiative. 

• Email or call Speaker Menin asking her to support the initiative.

• Share the attached social media posts on your platforms with tags for Speaker Menin and your City Council Member.

• Spread the word to your organization’s members.

• Sign this advocacy form to raise support and awareness for the initiative (coming soon)

We know that various circumstances may prevent you from doing any of those activities. If that’s the case, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us; this event is for everyone.

Unlike many parades in New York City that charge mandatory registration fees—such as the Puerto Rican Day, Panamanian, Mermaid, and West Indian Day Parades—we do not require fees, so the event remains open to all.

In past years, the City helped cover half our costs, but that support is no longer available. We now look to organizations and corporations to contribute at a level that feels right for them. Your support through our PayPal, Zeffy, and Venmo accounts will help keep this celebration thriving.
